Information about Gteway of India
The Gateway of India is one of the most popular destinations in Mumbai and India. It is an arch-monument which was constructed in between 1913-1924 to commemorate the landing of the then King and Queen at Apollo Bunder, Mumbai.
The Gateway of India is having Hotel Taj Palace and Taj Tower hotels right in front making it one of the prime locations. The gateway of India was the site of terror attack in August 2003.
Near to the Gateway of India, there's a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, one of the most popular Hindu kings who fought with the ruling invaders and expanded Maratha empire by defeating the Mughal empire.
There are multiple jetties around the Gateway of India, two of which takes tourists to Elephanta Caves which takes about an hour to reach the other side. That's one of the most popular activities to do in Mumbai. There is also jetty for Royal Bombay Yacht Club and you will find many ferries, boats nearby.
There are no entry charges to enter the Gateway of India which encourages thousands of tourists and locals to visit the monument on regular basis.
Height of Gateway of India - The gateway's arch has a height of 26 metres with its central dome being 15 metres in diameter.
Gateway of india is made up of stones which were sourced locally which the building is made of yellow basalt and reinforced concrete.
