How to air travel with infants? How to travel in flights with an infant in India?

The below is as per as our experience. Please double/ triple check with your airlines to be absolutely sure of what you can expect. Also the aviation guidelines change often hence prior research is important.

To travel with an infant, you must get an infant ticket of the child. The infant will be linked with any of the parents. During the security check on the gate, infant ticket is checked for and similarly during the security check after the check-in too.

About what name should be there on the ticket of an infant? It can be whatever you named the child or also it can be Baby of Mother name as per the hospital's records. In our case, only ticket was checked as we didn't have a birth certificate with name (weirdly state government's municipal corporation issues birth certificates without names which are to be updated through a random process.

To be doubly sure, we also took discharge summary of the hospital too so that there's no issue. In reality though, just the ticket was checked which was a relief as we had spent few hours in getting the name of infant updated. Earlier the airlines issued the ticket as Daughter of Mother name while as per hospital's records it was Baby of Mother name - funnily it seems like a trivial thing now.

Hence, since there is always a doubt of what documents to carry of your infant, you should ideally bring all possible relevant documents.

All the best for traveling with your infant and if you have a query, drop a comment and we will try to respond to it asap.
